Why Alaska

Wilderness on a scale nowhere else can match.

Alaska is larger than Texas, California, and Montana combined, with more coastline than the rest of the United States put together — and almost all of it is wild. Glaciers the size of small states, the highest peak in North America, and wildlife you watch from a respectful distance: bears at the salmon run, whales breaching beside the boat, eagles overhead. Getting Alaska right means choosing the right combination of interior, coast, and Inside Passage, and giving each the time the distances demand.

Juniper designs every Alaska itinerary as a fully private, custom journey — no group tours, no fixed packages. From remote wilderness lodges and glacier-view suites to small-ship cruising and the glass-domed Alaska Railroad, every detail is arranged before you travel.

Denali & the Interior
Six million acres of subarctic wilderness around the highest peak in North America — grizzlies, moose, and caribou, reached by the glass-domed Alaska Railroad and a private guide on the park road.
Glaciers, Fjords & the Coast
The Kenai Fjords, Prince William Sound, and the Inside Passage — calving tidewater glaciers, humpback and orca whales, sea otters, and small-ship cruising through Glacier Bay.
Wildlife & the Northern Lights
Bear viewing at Katmai and Lake Clark, whale watching on the coast, flightseeing over the Alaska Range — and, in the right season, the aurora over a wilderness lodge.

Great custom travel is an investment. Your specialist will walk through exactly what a fully private, tailor-made Alaska itinerary looks like for your trip during a free 30-minute consultation.

Best of Alaska — 8 Days

Anchorage · Talkeetna · Denali · Kenai Fjords

This is a sample itinerary — for inspiration only. Every Juniper trip is designed from scratch around you. Many clients love an itinerary very similar to this one — if something here resonates, your specialist can build something just like it (or better) specifically for your travel style, dates, and group.

1
Arrive in Anchorage
Anchorage+
Welcome to Alaska! A private driver collects you from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and brings you to your downtown hotel. Settle in and rest after your flight — your specialist will have arranged a relaxed first evening, perhaps a stroll along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail in the long northern light before the adventure begins.
Overnight: Anchorage
After breakfast you travel north toward Talkeetna, the laid-back river town that serves as the gateway to Denali. On a clear day the Alaska Range — crowned by Denali itself, the highest peak in North America — fills the horizon. An optional flightseeing tour with a glacier landing is the most unforgettable way to grasp the scale of the mountain.
Overnight: Talkeetna
A scenic journey — often aboard the glass-domed Alaska Railroad — brings you to the edge of Denali National Park, six million acres of subarctic wilderness. Check into your lodge and spend the afternoon on a guided nature walk or simply taking in the tundra and the chance of distant wildlife.
Overnight: Denali
A full day deep inside the park with an expert guide. Denali is home to the "Big Five" of Alaska — grizzly bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and wolves — and the single road into the park is the best way to find them. Bring binoculars; the landscapes of braided rivers and tundra beneath the great mountain are as memorable as the animals.
Overnight: Denali
Travel south through Anchorage to Seward on the Kenai Peninsula, tracing the Turnagain Arm where beluga whales and Dall sheep are often spotted. The Kenai is Alaska's playground of glaciers, fjords, and abundant marine life. Check into your waterfront lodge for the next two nights.
Overnight: Seward
A full-day small-boat cruise into Kenai Fjords National Park — calving tidewater glaciers, sea otters, humpback and orca whales, sea lions, and cliffs crowded with puffins and kittiwakes. One of the great wildlife days anywhere in the world, and the heart of any Alaska itinerary.
Overnight: Seward
A final day on the coast, entirely yours. Walk to the face of Exit Glacier, visit the Alaska SeaLife Center, kayak a quiet cove, or simply relax with the mountains and the sea. Your specialist can add a flightseeing trip to the Harding Icefield or a bear-viewing excursion.
Overnight: Seward
After breakfast, a private driver brings you back to Anchorage for your departure. Most travelers leave Alaska already planning a return — for the parts of this vast state they were not ready to leave. Your Juniper specialist remains reachable throughout departure day.

Every driver and guide was wonderful and the one time we thought we might miss a connection, because of unexpected traffic, our driver was on the phone with the 24/7 service desk working to sort it out for us. Common Questions

Alaska travel questions

The main season runs mid-May through mid-September — long days (near-midnight sun in June), active wildlife, open lodges, and the full cruise schedule. For the Northern Lights, late August through April is best, away from the summer light. Your specialist will tailor timing to whether you want wildlife and glaciers, the aurora, or both.
Most Juniper Alaska itineraries run 8–14 days. Eight to ten days covers a classic land route — Denali plus the Kenai. Twelve to fourteen days lets you add the Inside Passage by cruise, a bear-viewing fly-in, or an aurora extension. Alaska is vast and travel takes time, so we build in realistic transfers (often the scenic Alaska Railroad).
Absolutely — Alaska is one of the world's great honeymoon destinations. Remote wilderness lodges, glacier-view suites, private flightseeing with a glacier landing, small-ship cruising through the fjords, and the Northern Lights make for an unforgettable romantic trip. See our dedicated Alaska honeymoons guide.
Yes. Like every Juniper Tours journey, your Alaska trip is 100% private and built from scratch around your dates, pace, and interests — no group tours and no pre-set packages. Every transfer, lodge, guide, and cruise is arranged and confirmed before you travel.
Denali and its wildlife, a Kenai Fjords glacier-and-whale cruise, and the glass-domed Alaska Railroad are the classic highlights. Beyond them: bear viewing at Katmai or Lake Clark, the Inside Passage and Glacier Bay by ship, flightseeing over the Alaska Range, and — in the right season — the Northern Lights. Your specialist will help you choose the right combination.
