Why Peru

A country that moves to its own rhythm.

Peru rewards the traveler who slows down. In a single trip you move from the food markets of Lima to the silence of the Amazon at dawn, from the Inca stonework of Cusco to a weaver’s loom in the Sacred Valley, from the terraces of Machu Picchu to the reed islands of Lake Titicaca. Getting Peru right means pairing the icons with the quiet moments — and pacing the altitude so each region lands at its best.

Juniper designs every Peru itinerary as a fully private, custom journey — no group tours, no fixed packages. From a boutique hacienda in the Sacred Valley to a rainforest lodge deep in the Amazon, every detail, guide, train, and domestic flight is arranged before you travel.

Cities, Markets & Street Food
Lima’s ceviche and pisco bars, the San Blas quarter of Cusco, and the markets of the Andes — explored on private food tours and a rooftop cooking class, with guides who know which stall, which kitchen, and which back street to find.
Machu Picchu & the Inca Heart
The lost city of Machu Picchu by morning light, the terraced fortress of Ollantaytambo, the colossal Inca stonework of Sacsayhuamán, and the artisan streets of Cusco, the ancient capital.
Heritage & Countryside
The Amazon rainforest at Puerto Maldonado, the reed islands of Lake Titicaca, the weaving communities of the Sacred Valley, and a Pachamanca feast cooked in the earth — paced entirely around you.

Great custom travel is an investment. Your specialist will walk through exactly what a fully private, tailor-made Peru itinerary looks like for your trip during a free 30-minute consultation.

Best of Peru — 8 Days

Lima · Sacred Valley · Machu Picchu · Cusco · Lake Titicaca

This is a sample itinerary — for inspiration only. Every Juniper trip is designed from scratch around you. Many clients love an itinerary very similar to this one — if something here resonates, your specialist can build something just like it (or better) specifically for your travel style, dates, and group.

1
Arrive in Lima
Lima · Miraflores+
Welcome to Peru! On arrival at Jorge Chávez International, your VIP meet-and-greet representative is waiting to walk you through immigration and see your luggage to a private transfer into Miraflores — Lima's elegant clifftop district above the Pacific. Settle in and ease into the city at your own pace; your specialist will have arranged a gentle first evening, perhaps a sunset walk along the Malecón and your first proper pisco sour and ceviche.
Overnight: Lima
A full day with a private guide through Lima's most characterful quarters — a walking tour of bohemian Barranco, its street art, boutiques and the Bridge of Sighs, then the world-class Museo Larco, where pre-Columbian gold tells Peru's deep history. Lima is also South America's culinary capital, and your specialist can arrange a tasting lunch at one of the city's celebrated kitchens.
Overnight: Lima
A morning flight up to Cusco, where a private transfer takes you straight down into the Sacred Valley of the Incas — lower and gentler than Cusco itself, which makes it the ideal place to acclimatize. Check into a valley hacienda among the Andes and let the altitude settle with an easy afternoon.
Overnight: Sacred Valley
A day in the valley with your private guide: the dramatic terraced fortress of Ollantaytambo, a visit to a community of Andean weavers working the looms exactly as their grandmothers did, and a traditional Pachamanca feast cooked in the earth with hot stones. River rafting on the Urubamba can be added for the active.
Overnight: Sacred Valley
The day you came for. A scenic train winds along the Urubamba to Aguas Calientes, where you ascend to the lost city of the Incas for a private guided tour of the citadel — the terraces, the temples, and the unforgettable view toward Huayna Picchu. Timing, light, and a great guide make all the difference, and your specialist arranges your entry to keep you ahead of the crowds.
Overnight: Sacred Valley or Machu Picchu
Up to Cusco, the ancient Inca capital and one of the most beautiful cities in the Americas. A private city tour takes in the San Blas artisan quarter, the gilded temple of Qorikancha, a chocolate museum, and the colossal Inca stonework of Sacsayhuamán above the city. The evenings here — plazas, courtyards, a rooftop pisco sour — are pure Cusco.
Overnight: Cusco
South to Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake on earth and the cradle of Andean myth. A private boat takes you to the Uros — the famous floating islands woven from totora reeds — and on to Taquile, known for its UNESCO-recognised textiles and its quiet, time-stilled way of life.
Overnight: Puno (Lake Titicaca)
A morning at leisure, then a flight back to Lima to connect with your international departure — or extend into the Amazon, the Colca Canyon, or a few days on the coast. Most travelers leave Peru already planning the return.

Common Questions

Peru travel questions

Peru's dry season — roughly May through September — is the classic window for the Andes and Machu Picchu: clear skies, sunny days, cold nights. The shoulder months of April and October are quieter and still largely dry. The Amazon is warm and humid year-round, with lower water and easier wildlife spotting in the dry months. Your specialist times your route so each region lands at its best.
Most Juniper Peru itineraries run 8–14 days for the Andean classics — Lima, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Cusco, and often Lake Titicaca. Add the Amazon, the Colca Canyon, or the Nazca Lines and you're looking at two to three weeks, like our 25-day Grand Tour of Peru. Altitude makes a sensible pace important, and your specialist builds in time to acclimatize.
It's worth planning around, not fearing. Cusco sits near 11,200 ft and Lake Titicaca higher still. We design routes that ease you up gradually — often starting in the lower Sacred Valley before Cusco — and your specialist will advise on pacing, hydration, and, if you wish, speaking with your doctor about medication. Most travelers feel it for a day and then forget it.
Yes. Like every Juniper Tours journey, your Peru trip is 100% private and built from scratch around your dates, pace, and interests — no group tours and no pre-set packages. Private guides, domestic flights, the train to Machu Picchu, and every experience are arranged and confirmed before you travel.
