Why Juniper for Wellness

Most “wellness travel” is a hotel with a very good spa

Three quite different things get sold under the word. A hotel with a very good spa, where nothing is programmed. A structured retreat, with set dates and set practitioners. And a private wellness itinerary — your own trip, built around rest. The third is what we design.

It starts with an honest question: what actually restores you? Thermal water and cold air, or heat and a jungle? Movement and altitude, or a week of doing very little? Practitioners and programme, or simply nowhere to be? Those answers point at genuinely different countries.

Then the trip gets built to protect the answer — fewer, longer stays, transfers that do not undo the rest, and afternoons that stay empty on purpose. No packaged retreat. No itinerary that quietly becomes sightseeing. No day that starts with a departure time you did not choose.

Named Specialist
One person designs your trip, knows it inside out, and stays reachable throughout — not a call center, not a rotating team.
Properties Chosen for Their Practitioners
Wellness estates, thermal lodges and spa properties — chosen for who works there and what the setting does, not because they rank well for the word.
Pace as a Design Decision
Empty afternoons, unhurried mornings, and two nights minimum anywhere worth staying — pace is the whole product, so we build it in deliberately.

Ways to Travel Well

Rest looks different
to everyone.

Wellness is not one product. These are the shapes it takes, and the one you want changes which country makes sense.

Wellness Retreats

A stay built around a programme — movement, treatments, food and rest arranged as a sequence rather than booked ad hoc, with practitioners attached. Deeper than a spa week, and the version most people mean when they say retreat.

Thermal & Hot Springs

Geothermal bathing as the spine of the trip — Iceland’s volcanic water and enormous quiet, or the hot springs beneath Arenal in Costa Rica. The oldest form of wellness travel and still among the most effective.

Movement & Active Wellness

For people who rest by moving. Hiking, water, yoga and altitude built into the days — Peru’s Sacred Valley, Costa Rica’s coast and cloud forest, the Swiss Alps. Restorative without being still.

Blue Zone & Longevity

The Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica is one of five regions worldwide where people reach ninety in unusual numbers. You cannot buy that in a week, but you can spend a week inside it — the food, the pace, the way activity sits inside ordinary days.

Digital Detox

Somewhere genuinely remote, chosen so disconnection is a fact rather than a discipline — the Osa Peninsula, east Bali, the Icelandic interior. The point is that there is nothing to resist.

Milestone Celebrations

A significant birthday. A decade together. A reason worth marking properly. We design milestone trips that carry the weight of the occasion — the right destination, the right hotel, the right experience at exactly the right moment.

The Planning Process

From first conversation to the day you stop

Every Juniper wellness trip follows the same four-step process — from a rough idea to a confirmed, fully private itinerary with everything handled.

01
Free Consultation

30 minutes with the specialist who will design your trip. Tell them where you want to go, how you like to travel, and what matters most. They’ll ask the right questions and tell you what’s possible.

02
Your Custom Itinerary

Your specialist builds a fully private day-by-day itinerary from scratch — destinations, route, accommodations, transfers, experiences. Nothing borrowed from a template. Built entirely around what you told them.

03
Refine & Confirm

Review the proposal. Add a night here, swap a property there, adjust the pace. Once you’re satisfied, everything is confirmed and pre-arranged — accommodations, transfers, activities, reservations.

04
Travel, Stress-Free

Your app holds your full itinerary offline. Local partner contacts are provided for on-the-ground help. Your specialist remains reachable throughout. Your only job is to enjoy every single day.

Common Questions

Wellness travel questions

Three quite different things get sold under the word. A hotel with a very good spa, where nothing is programmed and you book treatments as you like. A structured retreat, with set dates, a set programme and practitioners attached. And a private wellness itinerary — your own trip, built around rest rather than sightseeing, with properties chosen for their practitioners and setting, and days paced so there is genuinely nothing scheduled after lunch. The third is what we design.
It depends what restores you. Costa Rica is our flagship — the Nicoya Peninsula is one of the world's five original Blue Zones. Bali pairs jungle spa culture with private-pool villas. Iceland is geothermal bathing and enormous quiet. Peru suits travelers who want altitude, ritual and the Sacred Valley. Croatia, Switzerland and Hawaii each do a very different version of the same idea.
Seven nights is the realistic floor for the wellness part to be more than a gesture, because the first two days are decompression whether you plan for them or not. Ten to twelve days lets you pair it with a genuine look at the country. Under a week, be honest with yourself that it is a good holiday rather than a reset.
Blue Zones are the five regions identified by researchers, and popularised through National Geographic, where people live measurably longer than average and reach ninety in unusual numbers — Nicoya in Costa Rica, alongside Sardinia, Okinawa, Ikaria and Loma Linda. What it means for a traveller is less mystical than the marketing suggests and more interesting: a food culture built on beans, corn, squash and fruit, an unhurried pace, strong community, and activity woven into ordinary days. You cannot buy that in a week, but you can spend a week inside it.
Usually part, and at the end. The pattern that works is a few days of the country first, then the wellness stay once you have stopped moving. Doing it the other way round is a common mistake — a week of rest followed by five hours of winding road undoes the week.
Most fully private, custom trips fall between about $5,000 and $15,000+ per person, land only, with hand-selected four and five-star stays and private transfers arranged end to end. A wellness-led trip tends to sit in the middle of that range rather than the top, because the spend goes into fewer, longer stays and practitioner time rather than into moving around.
Yes. Wellness is one of the trip types where travelling alone is common and works well, and the planning is the same: a free consultation, a custom itinerary, and a named specialist who stays with it. Solo travellers should say so early, because it changes which properties suit.
