Why Norway

Europe’s last great wilderness.

Norway is long, narrow, and almost vertical — a coastline of fjords carved by ice, more of them than anywhere else on earth. In summer the sun never sets; in winter the sky burns green with the aurora. Getting Norway right means choosing between the fjords, the Arctic, and the coastal voyage — and giving the distances the time they need.

Juniper designs every Norway itinerary as a fully private, custom journey — no group tours, no fixed packages. From a fjordside design hotel to a Lofoten rorbu cabin or a glass-roofed aurora lodge, every detail, train, and cruise is arranged before you travel.

Fjords & Scenic Rail
The Nærøyfjord and Geirangerfjord, the Bergen and Flåm railways, and the waterfalls and cliffs of the western coast — Europe’s most dramatic scenery, at your own pace.
Fjord Hotels & Arctic Lodges
Hand-selected fjordside design hotels, historic Bergen properties, Lofoten rorbu cabins above the water, and glass-roofed aurora lodges — chosen for character and views.
Midnight Sun & Northern Lights
The summer sun that never sets, or the winter aurora over the Arctic — plus whale watching, dog sledding, and the legendary coastal voyage north.

Great custom travel is an investment. Your specialist will walk through exactly what a fully private, tailor-made Norway itinerary looks like for your trip during a free 30-minute consultation.

Many clients love an itinerary very similar to this one — if something here resonates, your specialist can build something just like it (or better) specifically for your travel style, dates, and group.

Arrive in Oslo
Oslo+
Welcome to Norway! A private transfer brings you from Oslo Airport to your hotel in the harbour city. Settle in and explore at your own pace — your specialist will have arranged a gentle first evening, perhaps a waterfront stroll past the Opera House as the light stretches late into the northern evening.
Overnight: Oslo
A full day with a private guide through Norway's capital — the Viking Ship and Fram polar museums, the sculptures of Vigeland Park, and the bold Munch Museum and Opera House on the water. Lunch on the harbour, and time to feel a city that wears its wealth quietly.
Overnight: Oslo
One of the world's great train journeys: the Bergen Railway climbs across the Hardangervidda plateau, then the steep Flåm Railway drops through waterfalls and orchards to the fjord. Check into your fjordside hotel in Flåm as the cliffs glow in the evening light.
Overnight: Flåm
A morning cruise through the Nærøyfjord — the narrowest, most dramatic arm of the Sognefjord and a UNESCO site, sheer cliffs and ribboning waterfalls on both sides. Continue to Bergen, the historic gateway to the fjords, and your hotel by the old harbour.
Overnight: Bergen
A full day in Bergen — the colourful Hanseatic wharf of Bryggen (UNESCO), the fish market, and the Fløibanen funicular up Mount Fløyen for the view over the seven mountains. An afternoon to wander, or a day trip to the Hardangerfjord with your specialist's guidance.
Overnight: Bergen
Travel north toward the Geirangerfjord, the most celebrated fjord of all, past the wild scenery of the western coast. Check into your hotel above the water and watch the Seven Sisters waterfall thread down the cliffs opposite.
Overnight: Geiranger
A full day in the Geiranger region — a fjord cruise beneath the waterfalls, the dizzying Dalsnibba viewpoint, and the hairpins of the Trollstigen or the Eagle Road. Among the most spectacular scenery in Europe, at your own pace.
Overnight: Geiranger
After breakfast, a private transfer brings you to Ålesund or back toward Oslo for your flight home. Most travelers leave Norway already planning a return — for the far north, the Lofoten Islands, or the Northern Lights. Your Juniper specialist remains reachable throughout departure day.

“Everything planned by Juniper Tours went incredibly smoothly. Every driver and guide was wonderful and the one time we thought we might miss a connection, because of unexpected traffic, our driver was on the phone with the 24/7 service desk working to sort it out for us. I was very impressed with the service and the app.”

Common Questions

Norway travel questions

Two seasons, two very different trips. Summer (late May–September) brings the fjords at their greenest, the midnight sun, and the full coastal-voyage schedule. Winter (late September–March) brings the Northern Lights, snow, and Arctic activities. Your specialist will time it to whether you want the fjords, the aurora, or both.
Most Juniper Norway itineraries run 8–12 days. Eight to ten days covers the classic fjords-and-Bergen route. Ten to fourteen lets you add the coastal voyage, the Lofoten Islands, or an Arctic aurora extension in Tromsø. Distances are large, so we build in scenic rail, flights, and ferries.
Wonderfully. Fjordside design hotels, a glass-roofed aurora cabin, a Lofoten rorbu above the water, the midnight sun or the Northern Lights — Norway is one of the most dramatic and romantic honeymoons there is. See our dedicated Norway honeymoons guide.
Yes. Like every Juniper Tours journey, your Norway trip is 100% private and built from scratch around your dates, pace, and interests — no group tours and no pre-set packages. Scenic rail, fjord cruises, hotels, and guides are arranged and confirmed before you travel.
The Nærøyfjord and Geirangerfjord, the Bergen and Flåm railways, and the Hanseatic wharf of Bergen are the classics. Beyond them: the Lofoten Islands, the coastal voyage to the North Cape, Tromsø and the aurora, and the midnight sun in high summer. Your specialist will help you choose the right combination for your season.
