A Rare Hosted Departure

Bali and Komodo, in good company

Juniper is a fully-private, custom travel agency — but once in a while we host a small group on a route we love. This is one of them: nine nights arcing from the sacred springs and rice terraces above Ubud to two full days by private speedboat inside Komodo National Park — dragons, manta rays, Padar’s ridge and a pink-sand beach — before easing down onto the Sanur coast. Every hotel, internal flight, transfer, guide and most meals handled, with two free days built in so the trip can actually sink in.

1
Day One

Arrive in Bali

Denpasar → Ubud
You're met in the arrivals hall at Denpasar and driven north into the rice country to Ubud, Bali's artistic heart. The afternoon is yours to settle in, and in the evening the group gathers for the first time over a welcome dinner at the hotel.
Met on arrival Welcome dinner
Dinner Overnight: Plataran Ubud Hotel & Spa

Day Two

Sacred Springs & Rice Terraces

Ubud
A full day through Ubud's interior. Begin at Tirta Empul, the temple built around a holy spring where Balinese families still come to perform the melukat purification ritual. On to the rock-cut shrines of Gunung Kawi and the emerald tiers of the Tegalalang rice terraces, carved by the thousand-year-old subak irrigation system. The afternoon brings Kanto Lampo waterfall, and the day closes with dinner and a traditional dance performance beside the lotus pond at Cafe Lotus.

Day Three

Ubud at Your Own Pace

Ubud
A free day. Spend it at the spa or the pool, wander the markets and galleries — or add one of two private options: whitewater rafting through 33 rapids on the Ayung River, or a hands-on Balinese cooking class that starts in the Ubud market and ends around a table in Laplapan village with the food you've made.
Free day Optional rafting Optional cooking class
Breakfast Overnight: Plataran Ubud Hotel & Spa

Day Four

East to the Komodo Islands

Ubud → Labuan Bajo
A morning flight east over the Flores Sea to Labuan Bajo, gateway to Komodo National Park. You are met at the airport and transferred to an ocean-view room at AYANA Komodo, with dinner together that evening.

Breakfast · Dinner Overnight: AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach

Day Five

Padar, Pink Beach & the Dragons

Komodo National Park
The day the trip is built around. By private speedboat to Padar Island for the climb to its famous ridge viewpoint over three crescent bays, then Long Pink Beach — one of a handful of pink-sand beaches on earth — for swimming and snorkelling. On Komodo Island itself you walk with a national park ranger to find Komodo dragons in the wild, the largest lizards alive. The day ends on the pale sandbar of Taka Makassar. Lunch is served on board.

Day Six

Manta Rays & Coral Islands

Komodo National Park
A second full day on the water, this one underwater-facing: snorkelling at Manta Point where reef mantas gather to feed, then the white sand of Mawan, the reefs off Siaba and Sebayur, and finally Kanawa with its shallow, glass-clear coral gardens. Lunch on board; the evening is free.

Day Seven

Back to Bali — the Coast

Labuan Bajo → Sanur
An early-afternoon flight back to Bali and a transfer to Sanur, the island’s calm eastern seafront, where you check into a luxury suite for the last three nights. Dinner together at a local favourite.

Day Eight

Cliffs, Temples & the Kecak

South Bali
South to the Bukit Peninsula: the monumental Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park, the white sand and turquoise water of Padang Padang, and — timed for sunset — Uluwatu Temple on its cliff above the Indian Ocean, where the Kecak fire dance is performed as the light goes. Dinner is grilled seafood on the beach at Jimbaran Bay.

A Last Day by the Sea

Sanur
Nothing scheduled. Swim, take the spa, walk the Sanur beach path, or head back into the shops one more time. In the evening the group comes together for a farewell dinner.

Why This Departure

Small group, big country

Terraced green rice paddies in the hills above Ubud, Bali

Limited to twenty guests, this departure moves the way our private trips do — one table at dinner, no headcounts, no coach idling outside. It’s small enough to fill a private speedboat rather than a scheduled ferry into Komodo National Park, to walk with a park ranger instead of trailing a crowd, and to be on Padar’s ridge while the light is still good.

And it’s timed well: June falls in Indonesia’s dry season, when the seas around Komodo are at their calmest and clearest for snorkelling, and Bali is warm and bright without the July and August crowds.
