A Rare Hosted Departure

Japan’s greatest hits, in good company

Juniper is a fully-private, custom travel agency — but once in a while we host a small group on a route we love. This is one of them: eleven unhurried nights from Tokyo to the temples of Kyoto, the food of Osaka and a hot-spring ryokan near Mt Fuji, all fully guided. The two departures follow the same route — only the season, and one day in Kyoto tuned to match it, differ.

Why This Season

Autumn Colors

A Kyoto temple garden framed by red autumn maples

Autumn may be Japan at its most comfortable — crisp, clear days, thinner crowds, and hillsides that turn from green to gold to deep crimson. The momiji maples set temple gardens and mountain valleys alight, and the light turns everything to amber.

This departure is timed to travel with the color — including a walk through Arashiyama's maple-lined Sagano Nature Trail, one of the loveliest ways to take in the season.
